INVESTIGATION OF A HIGH-ENERGY DENSITY MOLTEN SALT BATTERY SYSTEM.

Abstract

The report describes an investigation of high-surface-area carbon and carbon-tungsten composite electrodes as cathode materials for a high-energy density molten salt battery. These electrodes were evaluated by studying the charge-discharge characteristics of the cell. The tungsten content in the composite electrodes was varied from zero to 75 weight percent and the capacities of the high-surface-area carbon and carbon-tungsten composite electrode were determined. The investigation was also extended to other binary and ternary molten halide electrolytes. (Author)
