SIMOPTIMIZATION RESEARCH. PHASE III.

Abstract

The design, implementation and empirical evaluation of the Decentralized Gradient Approach (DGA) of SimOptimization as applied to the TR-3 Model are the goals of the research. The TR-3 Model is a Monte Carlo simulation of an Anti-Submarine Warfare Patrol Screen in which DGA attempts to adjust the tactical parameters of the patrol vessels in the screen. The primary objective of this research is to demonstrate and evaluate the DGA performance with a realistic, complex and highly interdependent model. We have succeeded in achieving the demonstration based on four empirical experiments. Data to evaluate the performance of DGA as to its rate of convergence and its possible limitations is not available at this time. We are now in a position to make such an evaluation with the existing computer program. All that is needed is to conduct the experiments and analyze the results. (Author)
