METHOD OF INCREASING THE EFFICIENCY AND DURABILITY OF BRAKING DEVICES,

Abstract

Efficiency and durability of braking devices may be increased by supplying ammonia to the friction zone in the quantity required to force out the air. This raises the wear resistance and friction coeff. of the friction materials. As the braking device operates in a medium of ammonia, the ammonia dissociates giving nitrogen and hydrogen and interacts with the fine surface layers of the friction materials, which greatly strengthens and stabilizes the surfaces. The coeff. of friction in a medium of ammonia is increased by 15-40 percent. Furthermore, the ammonia medium considerably decreases linear and weight wear of metal-ceramics and of cast iron.
