ANALYSIS OF BEAM BENDING EXPERIMENTS OF FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITES.
Abstract
The investigation revealed that standard homogeneous isotropic beam theory cannot be used without modification for analyzing data obtained from bending experiments on fiber reinforced composites. Modified equations were obtained by reducing laminated plate equations to laminated beam formulas. For a composite having a large shear coupling compliance, it was shown that a very high ratio of length to width is necessary to validate the one-dimensional assumptions of beam theory. This conclusion was substantiated by experimental data. (Author)
