SYNTHESIS AND INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF CERTAIN MERCAPTALS ON MOTOR OIL PROPERTIES,

Abstract

Oil additives with functional groups containing oxygen, phosphorus or nitrogen are active only to about 200 degrees C. To obtain oil additives effective above that temperature, compounds with low valence sulfur must be used. The effectiveness of these compounds depends on the organic moiety. With this in mind, the authors studied mercaptals made from furfural and benzaldehyde.
