METHOD OF MEASURING VELOCITY DISTRIBUTION IN A FLOW,

Abstract

A method is introduced for measuring the velocity distribution in a flow of gas. The method is based on measurement of the transit time of a given base by ions formed during the pulsed probing of the flow by an electron beam. To obtain the velocity profile and its distribution over a given cross section, the electronic and ionic video signals are converted to a video image of the velocity cross section being measured; the time lag of the ionic video signal relative to the electronic signal is used to gage the velocity at various points of the flow cross section.
