ASYMMETRIC BULGING OF CYLINDRICAL FILMS UNDER CONDITIONS OF CREEP,

Abstract

A study is made of the problem of determining the critical time for non-axisymmetric buckling of cylindrical shells under conditions of a steady creep. The critical time is defined as a time in which the buckling of a shell having an initial imperfection becomes infinite. Under certain assumptions and using a variational principle analogous to Reissver's variational theorem in the elasticity theory, the problem of buckling of long cylindrical shells under external pressures and compressive forces is studied.
