LOW-LEVEL ATMOSPHERIC TURBULENCE AFFECTING AIRCRAFT FLIGHT,

Abstract

Atmospheric turbulence acting upon aircraft in the 0-2 km layer of the atmosphere is investigated. The two principal models of turbulence influencing aircraft, namely turbulence in the form of individual gusts and statistical aggregate of random gusts, are examined with the relevant equations. They include the following formulas: the equation for effective velocity of vertical gusts, the longitudinal and transverse spatial correlation functions, the spatial correlation function for pulsation of the longitudinal component of wind speed, the equation for the energy spectra of the vertical velocity component, the equation for the spectral density, the scale of turbulence, etc. The results of experimental studies are presented.
