MOLECULAR-ION ELECTROGASDYNAMIC FLOW CHANNEL.
Abstract
This investigation evaluates the operating characteristics of an EGD (electrogasdynamic) generator system which utilizes air both as the carrier fluid and as the source of injected ions. The design and construction of a flow channel and a corona ion injector are discussed, the performance of the ion injector is examined, and the results of attempts to obtain work by EGD energy conversion are presented. The experimental results presented and discussed are in reasonable agreement with expectations. The high mobility of molecular ions inhibits the conversion process and only 0.5% of the ions were removed from the corona by the air flow. Suggestions for improvements on the present system and the design of an advanced system are made. (Author)
