OPPOSED TENDENCIES IN THE MECHANISM OF OXIDATIVE DEGRADATION OF POLYMERS,

Abstract

A discussion and analysis of the published data on mechanism of oxidative decomposition of polymers supports Semenov's chain-reaction theory (Chemical Abstracts 25: 5992) with respect to degenerated branching, occurring as inhibition of polymer oxidation reactions. The discussion points to an increased degree of probability of oxidation initiation by anti-oxidants and of a secondary critical concentration of antioxidants. (Author)
