POLAR TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS STUDY REPORT. VOLUME II. APPENDIX 'A'. SYSTEMS ANALYSIS.

Abstract

Future development of transportation in Arctic Alaska must be analyzed in order to answer two questions: Is additional transportation beneficial enough to justify the cost-involved. What transportation system involves the most effective use of the nation's resources. The benefits of providing transportation to Arctic Alaska were addressed and where possible, conservative quantification of these benefits was undertaken in an effort to suggest what the magnitude of these benefits might be. The alternative systems are described along with their costs. The study compares costs and benefits to determine whether the benefits justify the costs involved , and considers which transportation system might involve the most effective use of the nation's resources.
