STRENGTHS OF THIRTY-ONE WATER VAPOR LINES BETWEEN 1617 AND 1429/cm.

Abstract

Measurement was made of the strength of 31 strong lines in the v2 band of H2O using a modified curve of growth technique. Comparison of the measured line strengths with theoretical line strengths calculated by Benedict and Calfee indicate that the band strength used in the calculation should be lowered from 317/(sq.cm. atm.) to 300(sq.cm. atm). When the band strength of 300(sq cm atm) is used, the calculated and measured line strengths agree to within the experimental accuracy for 30 of the 31 lines studied.
