A MODEL FOR STIMULUS RELEVANCE.

Abstract

The document is concerned with the idea that behavior, particularly that involved in judgement and vigilence, is affected by stimuli which would normally be considered so extreme or irrelevant as to be inconsequential. Certain experimental results indicate the possibility of successfully preadapting observers with low-energy stimuli so as to maximize their reactions to meaningful events. Additionally, the possibility is supported of training observers as time-samplers with periods of maximal sensitivity. (Author)
