THE MECHANISM OF TURBULENT COMBUSTION,

Abstract

With a view toward determining the relative contribution of the 'fluctuating laminar flame' model and of the 'distributed reaction zone' model to the turbulent combustion mechanism of a homogeneous mixture, an analysis has been made of the structure of a liminar flame in a nonuniform hydrodynamic field. In this particular article, the discussion is qualitative and focuses on the physical side of the picture; the main results were reported in an earlier paper by the author (Klimov, A. M., Laminar flame in turbulent flow. PMTF, no. 3, 1963). Starting with the fluctuating laminar flame model, the analysis arrives at a combustion mechanism under large-scale turbulence. The author considers the approach as a first approximation in the quantitative solution of the problem of the turbulent combustion mechanism of a homogeneous mixture. (Author)
