THE EFFECT OF EMISSION FROM AN OPTICAL QUANTUM GENERATOR ON METALS,

Abstract

The light beam of a laser is focused by lens onto metal surface. High-speed movie camera records the development of the vapor jet and hole in the metal. The laser oscillator consists of an active neodymium glass rod 25 mm in diameter and 500 mm long excited by 5 helical flash lamps. The shape, diameter, and depth of the hole blasted in the metal were found to depend in a complex manner on the parameters of the laser pulse.
