LINE WIDTHS IN THE PURE ROTATIONAL SPECTRUM OF CARBON MONOXIDE.

Abstract

Self-broadened semi-halfwidths of the pure rotational lines J = 7-6 through J = 20-19 have been measured for carbon monoxide, assuming a dipole moment of 0.112 Debye. These widths are narrower than those determined from vibration-rotation bands. The semi-halfwidth decreases anomalously from the J = 9-8 to the J = 10-9 transition. The measurements were derived from two-beam interferometric data, and the corrections required because of finite resolution and other instrumental effects are discussed. (Author)
