IONS PRODUCED BY CHEMICALLY REACTING SYSTEMS.

Abstract

An investigation was made on the processes of chemi-ionization, on the formation of secondary ions by charge transfer, on ion-molecule reactions, and on the rate of ion recombination in methane-oxygen flammable mixtures. This study was extended to flammable mixtures of carbon monoxide or hydrogen with oxygen with small amounts of methane. A kinetical interpretation of the data is discussed. The possible of applying a method of flashpototlysis and kinetic conductimetry to the study of chemi-ionization was examined. The influence of the partial pressure of oxygen attoms and fuel molecules on chemi-ionization rates was established in explosions of hydrogen-oxygen mixtures doped with hydrocarbons or ammonia. Ion-electron recombination coefficients were measured for the same explosions. (Author)
