NON-LINEAR DIELECTRICS FOR TUNING APPLICATIONS.

Abstract

Electronic tuning with non-linear dielectrics is desirable in electronic equipment since they possess large power-handling capabilities which are absent in presently used solid-state varactors. It is shown, using the experimental data in this report, that electronic tuning is possible in the VHF frequency range using presently available non-linear dielectric materials. The important factors to consider in these materials are a large non-linearity in dielectric constants, a reasonable Q, and a fast response time of the changing dielectric constant. Properties of selected compositions have been evaluated in regard to the above-mentioned factors. (Author)
