TRANSIENT TRIPPING OF DC CIRCUIT BREAKER POWER SUPPLY PP-2953B/U.

Abstract

Field tests and depot tests of Radio Terminal Set AN/GRC-163 and Radio Set AN/VRC-47 indicate that the DC circuit breaker on Power Supply PP-2953B/U opens when these systems are run on high power. Cause of the problem is identified by analysis of dynamic system performance. System deficiency is corrected by changing to a breaker with a higher trip current rating and longer delay time. Attendant design changes to the voltage control circuitry to protect the solid-state devices against destructive overload conditions are described. A modification has been devised to make the PP-2953B/U compatible with the AN/GRC-163 and AN/VRC-47 systems. The modification can be quickly and satisfactorily implemented by depot retrofit of existing power supply items. (Author)
