HIGH PRESSURE EFFECTS IN SOLIDS.
Abstract
The report summarizes investigations concerned with effect of high pressure on properties of simple solids and with the temperature dependent equation of state of solids. Eight experiments are discussed briefly and include (1) measurement of elastic constants of rubidium iodide as functions of pressure, (2) optical observations of the NaCl-CsCl structure transformation in rubidium iodide at high pressure, (3) the anomalous thermal expansion of germanium, silicon and compounds crystallyzing in the zinc blend structure, (4) the influence of pressure on point defects in alkali halides, (5) temperature dependence of the bulk modulus of germanium and silicon, (6) dielectric constant of rubidium iodide as a function of pressure to the transition pressure, (7) dielectric constants of NaCl and KCl as functions of pressure and temperature down to 16K, and (8) dielectric constant measurements in solid argon at high pressure.
