POTENTIAL ANTI-MALARIALS BASED ON QUINOLINE-7-CARBOXYLIC ACID.

Abstract

Several routes to unsubstituted 7-aminoalcohol-quinolines were investigated, none have yielded any of the required compound. A scheme of synthesis for 2,7-disubstituted quinolines was investigated. Antimalarial activity has been associated with one of these compounds, (2-phenyl-7-carboxyquinoline) and the synthesis of a series of such compounds, with varients in the 2-position, was undertaken. Alternative routes for the conversion of 2-aryl-7-methyl or 7-carboxyquinoline into 2-aryl-7-aminoalcohol quinoline derivatives are outlined. (Author)
