TRANSANNULAR INTERACTIONS OF HETERO ATOMS IN MEDIUM-SIZED HETEROCYCLIC COMPOUNDS.

Abstract

An examination was made of the role which heterocyclic atoms, strategically located in medium-sized rings, play in reactions which are known from related carbocyclic systems to proceed with a high degree of carbonium ion character. Research centered on the following topics: Acid-promoted rearrangements involving transannular ether oxygen participation; brosylate acetolysis; and photoisomerization of selected 3-cycloheptenone derivatives.
