CERTAIN RESULTS OF X-RAY SPECTRAL INVESTIGATION OF THE CHEMICAL BOND IN VARIABLE-COMPOSITION (Ti-TiO(0.48) TITANIUM OXIDES,

Abstract

The structure of x-ray absorption and emission of Ti in the lower oxides in a specific composition was investigated under analogous experimental conditions; in this composition range, a continuous series of solid solutions of O in alpha Ti exists. The general structure of the Ti spectra in the metal and the oxides with varying O content remains almost the same, although the variations in the relative intensity of the lines and in the fluctuations of the absorption coefficient in K edges attain significant values. The closeness in Ti-Ti and Ti-O spacings for both hexagonal and cubic Ti oxides accounts for the similarity in their different lattice symmetry. A possible theoretical interpretation of the maximum of the fine structure on the x-ray spectrum is presented. (Author)
