ORAL PROPHYLAXIS PELLET: A STABLE STANNOUS FLUORIDE PREPARATION.

Abstract

A compressed pellet containing an abrasive, stannous fluoride, binder, and flavoring was developed for use as an oral prophylaxis tooth paste. Water is added to the pellet to form a paste immediately prior to use. The advantages of the pellet are: (1) indefinite stability of the therapeutic agent; (2) assurance of effective yet nontoxic amount of fluoride administered to the patient; (3) increased ease of storage, dispensation, and mixing of paste; and (4) reduction of waste. With the use of the oral prophylaxis pellet, patients can be assured of receiving an effective oral prophylaxis with a minimum of adverse reactions. (Author)
