EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE RELATIVE GAP OF A SLIDING BEARING ON ITS CARRYING CAPACITY,

Abstract

In order to evaluate the influence of the geometric parameters of a bearing on its carrying capacity and the onset of liquid friction, the author conducted experimental investigations of sliding bearings. The investigations were performed using the theory of physical similitude, and the results were processed in a critical form in order to be able to extend the final evaluation relationships to other bearings, similar to those investigated. It is found that the magnitude of the relative gap influences the onset of liquid friction in a bearing and the carrying capacity of the bearing. The bearing load coefficient at the instant of separation of friction surfaces rises with an increase in the relative gap.
