THE METAL SCIENCE OF HIGH-MELTING METALS AND ALLOYS,

Abstract

The book summarizes works of Soviet and Non-Soviet researchers on the structure and properties of refractory metals and alloy. The principal physical properties of refractory metals, such as thermal, electrical and mechanical properties, are discussed. Also discussed are the fundamentals of alloy theory, experimental methods of plotting phase diagrams, and the interaction between refractory metals and other elements of the periodic table. A separate chapter explains aspects of the cold brittleness of refractory metals and methods applied to combat it. Considerable attention is paid to an investigation of the structure and properties of single crystals of refractory metals and alloys. Data on the oxidation of refractory metals are presented, and the possibility of increasing the heat resistance of metals and combining them with other materials is discussed. (Author)
