GRINDING AT THE PRESENT-DAY STAGE,

Abstract

The history of the development of abrasive tools and materials is outlined briefly, and recent advances in Soviet grinding are described. Materials such as synthetic corundum, silicon carbide, and cubic boron nitride are mentioned. Critical loads as a function of the grain size of the abrasive is analyzed. Precision grinding, high-speed grinding, electrolytic polishing, methods of increasing productivity, reduction of maintenance time, automation of the operating cycle, and automatic lines with built-in grinding machines are treated briefly.
