ROCKET INSTRUMENTATION FOR PCA MEASUREMENTS-BLACK BRANT 17.750 AND 17. 751

Abstract

This report discusses instruments contained in the payloads of Black Brants 17.750 and 17.751. These instruments were designed to measure characteristics of the D-region associated with polar cap absorption (PCA) events. The measurements included proton fluxes, x-ray emissions, total particle energy deposition, Lyman-alpha radiation, electron and ion densities and temperatures, and photometric emissions in the ionosphere.
