AN ATOMIC MODEL FOR CLEAVAGE CRACK PROPAGATION IN ALPHA IRON.

Abstract

A preliminary study of the atomic arrangements at the tip of a cleavage crack in alpha iron (BCC) is described. Equilibrium configurations are calculated under each of a number of different applied tensile loads. From a detailed study of these configurations the critical point at which crack extension commence is estimated. (Author)
