HEATPIPES AND VAPOUR CHAMBERS FOR SATELLITE THERMAL BALANCE.

Abstract

Heatpipes and vapour chambers, employing the principles of vapour heat transport, may be constructed with thermal conductances far higher than a solid metal structure with similar dimensions. This report describes the operation of these devices, and obtains quantitative estimates of the performance to be expected from them. It then discusses some of the ways in which they may be used to assist satellite thermal control. (Author)
