CAPACITOR ANALYSIS. EVALUATION REPORT,

Abstract

Capacitors become hot during operation due principally to dielectric losses in the capacitor dielectric. Heat pipes were used to extract this heat and thus permit the capacitor to operate at higher power levels. The capacitor/heat pipe geometry used in these experiments permits roughly a twofold increase in power level. It is anticipated that optimizing the heat transfer design will give as much as a 20-fold increase in power handling capacity. (Author)
