ON A CLASS OF EQUILIBRIUM CONDITIONS FOR MAJORITY RULE.

Abstract

It is shown that all presently known exclusion conditions for equilibrium under majority rule are extremely restrictive, in the sense that if the preference of individual voters over a multidimensional space of commodities or policy vectors are convex and representable by a differentable utility function, then a very modest degree of heterogeneity of tastes makes all known exclusion conditions inapplicable.
