PRE-INTERVENTION EFFECTS OF MEDIATION VS. ARBITRATION.

Abstract

The effects of the anticipation of various forms of third-party intervention were examined in a collective bargaining simulation. Negotiators faced with a binding decision from a third party behaved in a more conciliatory fashion and were more likely to reach agreement than those faced with a non-binding decision. This was particularly true for the union negotiators. (Author)
