THE QUESTION OF CALCULATING THE TURBULENCE COEFFICIENT IN THE BOUNDARY LAYER OF THE ATMOSPHERE,

Abstract

The paper is a review of Soviet and foreign literature on determining the profile of the coefficient of turbulence k(z) on the basis of experimental data on actual wind, atmospheric temperature, and structural measurements in the boundary layer. The formulas and data for calculating k(z) used by different investigators and the results obtained are presented. The profile of k is obtained by various methods is usually a curve with a pronounced maximum at altitudes of 100-300 m. An analysis of all the methods shows that in the present stage of investigation into distribution of the turbulence coefficient in the boundary layer of the atmosphere, it is possible to speak only of qualitative results.
