COURSE LINE COMPUTER/PICTORIAL DISPLAY.

Abstract

An extensive modification was made to a Course Line Computer/Pictorial Display. The major objective of the modification was the construction of a new type of display which permits the pilot to choose any map at the scales of 40 NM/inch, 20 NM/inch, 10 NM/inch or 5 NM/inch by merely 'dialing' a station and scale and activating a reset button on the Display front panel. Once a map is chosen, and assuming that the aircraft and destination are within the area encompassed by the map, an aircraft marker and a destination marker appear in proper geographical location on the map. In addition, the aircraft marker indicates heading with respect to magnetic North. The pilot may slew to any designed map and then return to his present map by merely activating a reset button. Other modifications included the substitution of more reliable relays and relay sockets in the Course Line Computer, ability to set distance to destination in 1/2 NM rather than 1 NM intervals, greatly improved display lighting and display of the warning flag directly over the chart.
