LECTURE NOTES ON CONFORMAL MAPPING TECHNIQUES IN SHIP HYDRODYNAMICS.

Abstract

A short survey is given of conformal mapping concepts in relation to added mass evaluation. A revised formulation of published two- and three-parameter mapping functions is presented. Reference is made to free surface effects on added mass calculations. A review of other existing mapping methods illustrates the need for a more accurate mapping procedure. Comparison of results obtained by the author's procedure with those obtained by the Schwarz-Christoffel method for simple geometric shapes indicates excellent agreement. A summarized presentation is given in graphical and tabulated form of added mass coefficients for various types of two-dimensional cylinders simulating a wide variety of ship sections. (Author)
