COMPLIANT SURFACE BEARINGS: AN ANALYTIC INVESTIGATION.

Abstract

The problem investigated is that of compliant surface bearings. An analytic and numerical representation is developed and applied to the geometries of the axisymmetric thrust bearing and journal bearing. In the case of the thrust bearing numerical results and experimental data are compared indicating the need for further investigation. In the case of the journal bearing numerical results are presented. In general, the elastomer is represented by linear elasticity and the fluid by Reynolds' equation. (Author)
