ON A GENERALIZATION OF THE EXPONENTIAL INTEGRAL.

Abstract

The subject matter of this paper evolved during the process of finding the asymptotic form of the stream function for the flow of an Oseen-like fluid past a paraboloid of revolution. Certain simple-appearing ordinary differential equations of the second order had to be solved in order to obtain the second and third approximations to the stream function and led in a natural way to a generalization of the exponential integral. The definitions of these generalized exponential integrals, their asymptotic and series expansions, the recurrence relations and derivatives parallel those of the well-known exponential integrals.
