PLASMA DIAGNOSTIC TECHNIQUES AND GENERATION USE IN FLIGHT CONTROL DIVISION'S PLASMA FACILITY.

Abstract

A magnetic bottle and its associated two-phase 4-MHz oscillator are now in operation in a new building. Many details of the plasma-producing device have had additional improvements. The construction and development of a static discharge system, an arc discharge assembly, and a P.I.G. facility were carried out. Diagnostic plasma measurements were made with microwave horns, Langmuir probes, and Fabry-Perot interferometers. Determinations have been made on the electron number densities and velocity flows under different controlled conditions at various locations in the plasma. Additional tools, such as the Brush cathode and the conductivity probe, have been constructed and tested. (Author)
