APPLIED BIOCHEMISTRY AND MICROBIOLOGY IN 1968,

Abstract

At the Annual Meeting of the Division of Biochemistry, Biophysics and the Chemistry of Physiologically Active Compounds, the basic results of work on problems in applied biochemistry and microbiology during 1968 were discussed. Some of the topics covered at the meeting are the following: a selective accumulation of phosphorylated products from a mixture of glucose, mannose and galactose was discovered; a new microorganism of the green serobacteria type has been isolated; the mathematical planning method has been used in formulating the general principals of optimization of nutrient media; a highly active strain of yeasts has been experimentally obtained; it was found possible to use the microbiological method for the leaching of arsenic from concentrates of tin ore; a number of studies have been made on the problem of use of chemical methods in livestock raising.
