COLLISIONS BETWEEN GAS ATOMS AND SURFACES.

Abstract

Experimental results of studies of molecular beam scattering from surfaces obtained during the period 1 October 1968 to 30 September 1969, are presented. Major emphasis was on the scattering of the rare gases and hydrogenic molecules from (001) LiF and included studies of diffraction, selective adsorption, and the effects of normal lattice modes and elastic properties on the scattering. Included are three articles which have been submitted for publication. The titles of these are the following: An experimental attempt to observe diffraction from (001) Ag; Intensity data for the reflection and diffraction of 3He, 4He, H2 and D2 from the (001) surface of LiF; Rare gas scattering from LiF-Correlation with lattice properties II.
