EQUATION OF STATE STUDIES OF EIGHT ROCK TYPES AND ONE ROCK-MATCHING EPOXY GROUT.

Abstract

Shock equation of state studies have been conducted on rock from four locations in the United States: Washington, Wyoming, New Mexico, and Colorado. These studies were conducted for specific projects, and the rock tested was from specific areas at the various locations. Equation of state data were obtained on the following rock types: basalt, soda diorite, granite, gneiss, limestone, sandstone, shale, and tonalite. One rock-matching epoxy grout was also fabricated and tested at low pressures. The low-pressure tests (up to 40 kilobars) were conducted utilizing a compressed-air gun facility and an induction wire technique. The high-pressure tests (up to 600 kilobars) utilized a high-explosive system in conjunction with direct-contact plate and flying plate techniques. (Author)
