A HISTORICAL STUDY OF THE BEGINNINGS OF INDIVIDUALIZED SOCIAL SERVICES IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY.

Abstract

The chief objective of this study was to provide a detailed history of the beginnings of individualized social services (social casework) in the Army of the United States. The study was planned to include three major lines of inquiry: a study of the circumstances under which a program of individualized services for social and personal problems of soldiers was first begun; a study of the philosophy, goals, methods, and techniques employed in providing these services which could be used to identify them as social casework services; and, a study of public response to these beginnings of individualized social services (casework) in the military setting.
