DYNAMIC MEASUREMENT OF SHOCK INTENSITY IN VISCOELASTIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

This report presents results obtained in a series of studies concerning wave propagation in solid propellants and methods of investigating that topic. Uniaxial and cylindrical wave propagation experiments were performed in Solithane 113 and in an inert propellant. The experiments in Solithane 113 were studied using photoelasticity to investigate the usefulness of that material and technique for wave propagation experiments. The experiments in inert propellant were used to predict the early time characteristics of the material. Magnetic velocity transducers were used in these studies. (Author)
