HEAT TRANSFER IN CONNECTION WITH ORGAN AND TISSUE PRESERVATION.

Abstract

A number of preliminary bovine kidney perfusion experiments were conducted. The practical details of obtaining the kidneys, connecting them rapidly to a portable perfusion system and clearing them of blood were first perfected. Then some initial pressure drop versus flow rate measurements were made during perfusion experiments. A cast of the larger vessels in a bovine kidney was made and some of the important dimensions were determined for later use in the freeze-thaw, heat transfer analyses for kidneys. A literature study of current methods of determining nerve graft survival has been initiated. (Author)
