OPTIMUM TIRE SKID DEPTH.

Abstract

The purpose of the program was to select and develop tread design parameters and materials that would provide for optimum skid depth for aircraft tires. Current tire skid depth design parameters were critiqued in view of new mathematical models for describing and analyzing forces acting on aircraft tires. The new models were used to calculate optimum skid depth for 20x4.4 12PR 200 MPH aircraft tires, based on tread separation forces, bond strength tests for materials, and casing construction factors. The development work included testing of retreaded optimum skid depth 20x4.4 12PR tires. (Author)
