A NEW DESTABILIZATION PHENOMENON IN NONCONSERVATIVE SYSTEMS,

Abstract

A new destabilization phenomenon for nonconservative systems is demonstrated. It is shown that a double pendulum subjected to a follower load may become unstable when the damping in the system is increased in value. This unexpected effect is caused by interaction of internal and external damping mechanisms. (Author)
