TITANIUM MELTING BY THE ELECTROSLAG PROCESS

Abstract

The report deals with the melting of titanium by the electroslag or Hopkins process. Details are given on the slag chemistry. Both small and large scale melting experiences are covered. Ingot quality is described in terms of chemistry and workability. Primary problems remaining are hydrogen removal and effect of residual fluorides.
