ON THE EQUATIONS OF MOTION OF A MOVING THREADLINE,

Abstract

The equations governing the elastic and transverse wave propagation on a moving flexible string, in an Eulerian reference frame are analyzed by a characteristic procedure and are found to be a quasilinear fully hyperbolic system. Solutions for transverse and oblique impact problems and those for traveling forces are discussed. In many cases the Eulerian equations demonstrate more flexibility in the treatment of general boundary and initial value problems. (Author)
