EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION OF LANDAU'S DISPERSION RELATION.

Abstract

Waves were excited and detected at frequencies of 30-180 MHz which have wavelengths between 4-15 mm, corresponding to several Debye lengths. Their phase velocity was approximately the electron thermal speed. No waves were detected below plasma frequency. When scaled to plasma frequency and Debye length the experimental phase and damping data lie on Landau's original dispersion curve. (Author)
